Position Statement on the Use of Baby Boxes in the U.S.
March, 20, 2025
As the victims of the globalized child supply market, we are living proof of a multibillion-dollar criminal industry. For over 400 years, millions of children have been sourced through child harvesting campaigns, ranging from kidnapping to coercing their mothers to give them up.
Turning Human Beings into Commodities
The industry has commodified children, exploiting them and their mothers for profit. To the rest of the world, this is human trafficking. However, the U.S. continues to grow its markets and create new ways to source its supply of children. Over the last decade, more than 300 baby boxes have been installed at hospitals and fire stations across the country.
Ongoing Coercive Control of Women
With more baby boxes has raised growing concerns about perpetuating age-old stereotypes and stigmatization of out-of-wedlock and teen pregnancies. These stereotypes are reinforced by religious and familial persecution. This is coercive control. It’s not enough that these women are groomed and conditioned from birth, but they face messages within their own families and communities that they’re not good enough to keep their babies.
To give up their babies anonymously came out of the demand by their parents not to bring shame upon them and their families. This coercive control tactic is compounded by a society that supports harvesting their children for the industry’s child supply market instead of providing them with services and resources to keep their families together. Rather than addressing and correcting wrongful attitudes, society endorses the recruitment, coercion, and exploitation of mothers for their children.
Conclusion
It is our position that the use of baby boxes is a key component in this child supply market. It perpetuates the exploitation of women and destruction of families. Baby boxes are nothing more than baby depositories for a profiteering scheme that should be criminalized like it is in the rest of the world.
· It is wrong to coerce and brainwash these mothers.
· It is wrong to threaten them if they don’t give up their babies.
· It is wrong to take their babies for a child supply market where they are trafficked.
It is our position that the baby boxes be destroyed and the child supply market be criminalized. Mothers should be supported and not exploited. They should be given every opportunity to keep their babies. It needs to be a top priority to stop this trafficking scheme.
